英语中动词的分类及其用法:
■动态动词和静态动词
根据词义特点，行为动词可分为动态动词和静态动词。动态动词表示动作，如give, take, work, run等;静态动词表示感觉、情感、内心世界、相互关系等，如know, live, lie, exist, be, have, mean, seem, appear, sound, prove, concerns, hate, dislike, like, love, prefer, surprise, astonish, satisfy, contain, include, matter depend on, belong to, guess, suppose，imagine, believe, doubt, admire, envy等。
■及物动词与不及物动词
根据后面是否带宾语，行为动词又可分为及物动词和不及物动词，及物动词(vt. ) 后面要跟宾语，不及物动词(vi. ) 不跟宾语。如:
They study hard. 他们勤奋学习。(study后没有宾语，是不及物动词)
I know them well. 我很了解他们。(know后有宾语them，是及物动词)
注:有的动词既可作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词。如:
She sings very well. 她唱得很好。(sing是不及物动词)
She sang an English song just now. 她刚才唱了一首英文歌。(sing是及物动词)

■限定动词与非限定动词
限定动词在句中作谓语，有人称和数的变化。非限定动词有动词不定式、动名词和分词三种，在句中不能单独作谓语，没有人称和数的变化(详见非谓语动词一章) 。如:
The room needs cleaning. 这房间需要清洁了。(needs在句中用谓语，是限定动词;cleaning是动名词作needs的宾语，属非限定动词)
■延续性动词和非延续性动词
根据动作是否延续，行为动词又分为延续性动词和非延续性动词。如rain, live, work, learn等是延续性动词，go, come, leave, start, arrive, join, finish, end等是非延续性动词。
注:非延续性动词在肯定句中通常不与表示时间段连用的for短语连用。如:
[译]他离开这里三天了。
[误]He has left here for three days.
[正]He has been away from here for three days.
[正]He left here three days ago.
[正]It’s three days since he left.
suit表示的用法与搭配说明:
1. 用作动词，表示“适合”、“合适”，主要有两方面的意思，一是指合某人的意或使某人满意;二是指衣服、颜色等与某人相称或适合等。如:
The seven o’clock train suits will suit us very well. 七点钟的那一班火车对我们很合适。
Will it suit you if we eat now? 如果我们现在吃饭，你觉得合适吗?
The change of plan did not suit him at all. 改变计划一点不合他意。
Would it suit you to come at five? 你五点钟来行吗?
This climate does not suit me. 这种气候对我不适宜。
The new dress suits her very well. 这件新衣她穿很合适。
This color doesn’t suit her. 这种颜色她穿不合适。

2. 用于 be suited for [to]，意为“适合”。如:
He is not quite suited for [to be] a teacher. 他不太适合当老师。
He is not suited to such a hard life. 他不适合过那样艰苦的生活。
This car is not well suited for [to] rough roads. 这种车不适合在崎岖的道路上行驶。
3. 注意以下同义句型:
她很适合于这一工作。
正:She is quite suited for [to] the work.
正:She is quite suited for doing the work.
正:She is quite suited to do the work.
动词miss的两条重要用法:
1. 表示错过或避免做某事，其后习惯上接动名词作宾语，不接不定式。如:
I just missed burning my hand. 我差点把手烫了。
He narrowly missed being seriously injured. 他差点受了重伤。
表示怀念做过的某事，其后习惯上也接动名词作宾语，不接不定式。如:
I miss living in the country. 我怀念以前住在乡村的日子。
I miss you bringing me cups of tea in the mornings! 我常怀念早晨你给我送茶的情景!
2. 表示“丢失”，通常用其现在分词(转化为形容词)作表语或定语。如:
The book has two missing pages [two pages missing]. 这本书缺两页。
The child has been missing for a week. 这孩子下落不明已有一周了。
注意不能用过去分词转化来的形容词，如:
误The child has been missed for a week.
report用作动词时的重要搭配:
1. 用作动词，注意以下搭配:
(1) 用于report sb，表示“告发某人”。如:
It won’t be necessary for him to report to the police. 他没必要去报告警察。
(2) 用于report to sb，表示“向某人报告”。如:
We must report to the teacher at once. 我们必须要马上向老师报告。
(3) 用于report sb to sb，表示“向某人告发某人”。如:
We’ll report you to the teacher. 我们将向老师告发你。
He reported the boy to the head teacher for smoking on the school premises. 他向校长告发了这个男孩在校内吸烟。
用于report sth to sb，表示“将某事向某人报告或汇报”。如:
He reported his discoveries to the professor. 他把自己的发现向教授作了汇报。
2. 用作动词时，若后接动词作宾语，要用动名词(可用一般式或完成式)，不能用不定式。如:
They reported having seen him in Bringhton. 他们说在布赖顿见到了他。
He reported having met only a cyclist. 他报告说只碰到一个骑自行车的人。
这类用法通常可与后接that从句的用法转换。如:
他们报告说他们看见了飞碟。
正:They reported seeing [having seen] UFOs.
正:They reported that they had seen UFOs.
3. 用作动词时虽然不能直接跟不定式作宾语，但可接“宾语+不定式”。如:
They reported a star to have appeared in the East. 他们报道东方出现了一颗星星。
Everyone reported him to be the best man for the job. 大家都说他是做这工作最合适的人。
这类结构主要用于被动语态。如:
A girl is reported to be missing. 据报导一个女孩失踪了。
He is reported to have been chosen chairman of the trade union. 据说他当选了工会主席。
注意，被动式be reported 是一个常用结构，其后可以接不定式、分词、介词短语、as短语等。如:
He’s reported to be still in prison. 据报道他还在坐牢。
He was reported to have broken the world record. 据报道他打破了世界纪录。
The late rice was reported growing better than last year. 据报道晚稻长势比去年好。

正:it is reported that she earns over $10 million a year.
正:She is reported to earn over $10 million a year.
