At home gather a few items: large mixing bowl, large cake pan, electric mixer or large mixing spoon, a spatula, cooling rack, measuring cups, and spoons. First, wash your hands and work area. Read the directions on the cake box to be sure you have all the ingredients needed (usually water, oil, and eggs). Place the equipment and food items in your work area according to the order you will be using them. Be sure to preheat your oven to the appropriate temperature before you begin.

Next, put the dry cake mix into the large mixing bowl. Add the prescribed amount of water, oil, and eggs to the mix.
